The Illinois Secretary of State office keeps track of driving
records. They offer two different ways for you to order your driving
record: by mail or in person. If you can make it to one of the
Secretary of State's Driver Services facilities, you can pay $12, fill
out an abstract request form, and they'll print the driving record off
for you right then and there. For even faster service, you can print
off the abstract request form
here and fill it out before you leave. Click
here to find the location of the Driver Services facility nearest
you. You can also have an immediate family member pick up a copy of
your driving record for you, but they'll have to bring notarized
written permission with them.
If you don't have time to stop by an office, you can also request a
copy of your Illinois driving record by mail. Send a completed copy of
the abstract request form, along with the $10 fee, to the following
address:
Secretary of State
Driver Analysis Section
2701 S. Dirksen Parkway
Springfield, IL 62723.
Mailed requests usually take about 10 days to process.
Other people's driving records:
If you have someone else's name, date of birth and gender you can
order a copy of their driving record. The copy you receive will be
scrubbed clean of any personal or identifying information such as a
home address, but you will be able to see any accidents or violations
that appear on their driving record. The cost to order another person's
record is still $12.00. However, it takes longer to process a request
for someone else's record than it does to order your own. This is
because the state will send a notification to the person you have
requested information on to tell them that you have requested a copy of
their driving record. The Secretary of State's office waits an
additional 10 days to give the person a chance to receive notification
of the request in the mail, so your copy of their driving record won't
get mailed for approximately 20 days.
