If you are convicted of an Illinois speeding ticket, points will be
added to your license for the offense. Driving points add up, and once
you get too many, the Secretary of State can take your license
away.
Speeding tickets accumulate points based on the following table:
- 11 to 14mph over?15 points
- 15 to 25mph over?20 points
- More than 25mph over?50 points
After you get 15 points on your driving record, your license may be
suspended for a period of time. Do you see how easy it can be to reach
that threshold? In Illinois, it's important to take traffic school,
even on your first speeding ticket, in order to protect both your
insurance rates and your driving privileges.
